Artist statement: May 2005 Art and Artifact Tour/New Brunswick Museum

Artifact: Cherubs: from Quebec Church c:1750

It’s fascinating to me how we become more child-like in body as we age, flesh sags, shoulders slump, spines shrink, bottoms and hips widen. We are however, extremely fortunate if our minds stay clear, reflecting our life experiences.

The NBM is like us in that way, it is young in time and spirit but it’s rooms are filled with ancient wisdom embodied by these two small figures on which I chose to base my sculpture.

I have used a child’s face and given it “old eyes”…a combination of innocence and wisdom.
